No, Bangladesh is not a Democracy!

Few days ago a video, from World Economic Forum, was doing rounds on the social media where it showed the economic progress of Bangladesh and the factors behind it. Amongst those who share this video Khawaja Asif, of PMLN also share it with these lines, https://twitter.com/KhawajaMAsif/status/1184946411500113920 What a profound statement, no? Well it would’ve been if it wasn’t for the invention of the internet and the ability to "factcheck" any kind of information, online, but more on that a little later on. Upon seeing Khawaja sb’s tweet his colleague Ahsan Iqbal sprung into action and wrote a very heartfelt answer of his own https://twitter.com/betterpakistan/status/1185046628408942592 I was about to shed a tear on this very well written tweet until I remembered that the video in question has a list of all the major factors behind Bangladesh’s economic growth and interestingly democracy is not one of them, clearly WEC (World Economic Forum) knows somet...

Zac Efron does justice to the sadistic monster that was Ted Bundy

Image
In the span of four months, Netflix has  released  back to back features based upon the life of one of America’s most prolific serial killers: Ted Bundy. This focus has unsurprisingly caused some ‘good Samaritans’ to believe that someone in charge at Netflix also happens to be a secret Ted Bundy groupie.  The 110-minute long feature titled  Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile  is a very accurate title for Bundy’s bio, if you ask me. The movie is based upon the memoirs of Bundy’s former girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer (played by Lily Collins), and as the story is told from her perspective, it is more about how Bundy got away with so much for so long rather than the typical formula of simply selling the sheer brutality of his crimes. continue reading on: https://blogs.tribune.com.pk/story/82481/zac-efron-does-justice-to-the-sadistic-monster-that-was-ted-bundy/

Women of Science

Last Wednesday; Mankind achieved the unthinkable when astronomers captured the 1st ever image of a black hole thru the "Event Horizon Telescope" or EHT for short. The EHT is a network of telescopes that are scattered through out earth, from the US to Spain to Chile to Antarctica etc. All of these telescopes captured image data that was later assembled together as a giant jigsaw puzzle by a sophisticated computer algorithm. This was such a milestone that the world of science is still buzzing with excitement and paying homage to human ingenuity and Einstein in particular, who rightfully predicated the existence of black holes so many years ago. But something was missing from all of it, nobody was praising, initially, the person that made it all possible...Three years ago; Katie Bouman, then a grade student in computer science and artificial intelligence at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, led the creation of a computer algorithm that went thru millions...

Deutchland

From chanting hymns for deities to singing pop songs; music has the power to transcend thru time, language, culture and borders. And with the innovation of music videos this vessel of expressing human emotions is reaching new heights. Last year the music video of “This is America” by Childish Gambino set new standards of story telling via music videos. A beautiful mix of good beats, symbolism and reenactment of real events “This is America” painted a vivid social picture of today’s America where violence and racism is still running rampant. This year; After a decade long hiatus, the German rock band “Rammstein” released their new single entitled “Deutchland” and it has taken the art of making music videos to an insane level of artistry because in a span of just 9 minutes “Deutchland” encapsulates the whole history of modern Germany. “Deutchland” starts with “Battle of the Teutoburg Forest” when Roman soldiers were slaughtered by ancient German tribes and from there on, frame b...

Don't blame Netflix

Human brains are hot wired to feel emotions for others, a quality that came in real handy for the survival of our species hence individuals who lack this human trait are always a subject of our morbid fascination. Case in point “Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes” a 4 part documentary series on Netflix; that provides “A unique look” inside the mind of the infamous American serial killer Theodore Robert Bundy or Ted Bundy. Ted Bundy was an “all American boy” who grew up in an average white American family and was on his way to become a lawyer with a pretty good nag for politics as well but somewhere down the line something snapped inside Bundy’s brains and in a span of just 4 years he killed more than 2 dozen women over 7 states. Just Like a ‘spider tailed viper’ Bundy would lure unsuspecting prey in and when the timing was just about right Bundy attacked with such ferocity that blurred the lines between humanity and animality. Ted Bundy was arrested in 1975; fol...

Welcome to your Brain

“I think, therefore I am.” Congratulations; You are a human being! A social primate; born with the ability to develop speech, walk on two feet and the largest brain (brain to body ratio) in all of the primate species. Although having a big brain and intelligence are 2 totally different things but I am sure you already know that...just look around! Your brain’s fused with a “cerebral cortex” that is loaded with 16 billion neurons, greater than any other species on earth! And since you are not jumping up & down, singing hallelujah, let me explain what that means; Think of neurons as a “cellular” app, used by the brain to send and receive messages to or from your body. Over all your brain has 86 billion neurons which are rapidly passing information; ranging from your muscle movements to what you see, smell or taste, etc. Now: if neurons are a messaging service the cerebral cortex is a very sophisticated smartphone that controls most of your existence. It is home...
